The Coalition studio has officially confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will be released in 2026. Aside from a tweet stating that the game will “launch on E-Day in 2026,” no further details have been revealed so far, though new information may be shared during the Xbox Direct event in January.
As the first mainline entry in the series since Gears 5 (2019), the game is positioned as a prequel, focusing on the early stages of the Locust invasion of planet Sera. Players will take on the roles of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, voiced once again by their original actors, as they endure several days of survival combat in the city of Kalona.
While later entries in the series shifted more toward action and adventure elements, Gears of War: E-Day will return to the franchise’s survival-horror roots and feature a linear campaign structure. In addition, unlike Halo: Combat Evolved, the game is very likely to include a multiplayer mode. Whether it will launch simultaneously on PS5—alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC—remains to be seen.
