Valve recently announced three new hardware products: the Steam Frame VR headset, the Steam Console, and a Steam Controller. But some fans remain most eager for news about Half-Life 3. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has now hinted that the game may launch in March 2026 alongside the Steam Console.
This prediction came from a podcast featuring Henderson and Mike Straw. According to Straw’s source, there will be no major announcements at the December 11 TGA Awards, but Henderson added that Valve’s next big reveal will likely involve the Steam Console’s launch lineup. The insider “heard that a highly anticipated major title is set to release in March.”
Although Valve has not officially confirmed the name of its flagship title, rumors about a Half-Life 3 release date continue to intensify. Multiple sources, including XboxEra’s Nick “Shpeshal” Baker, predict that more developments are coming. While TGA is now seen as a less likely announcement venue, changes to the Steam website have drawn attention to potential news on November 18.
The road to releasing Half-Life 3 has been long and difficult. A direct Half-Life 2 sequel was in development in 2013, but it never saw the light of day. The 2020 VR title Half-Life: Alyx was originally planned for release in 2019 alongside the Index VR headset but was delayed. Later, dataminers uncovered evidence of a new project codenamed HLX.
Valve has clearly stated that it has no additional VR games planned, making it more likely that HLX is a Half-Life 2 sequel built for the Steam Console rather than for the Frame device.
The game Henderson referenced may be a Steam Console exclusive. However, a more realistic scenario is that Half-Life 3 will release on the Steam platform rather than being restricted to the cube-shaped console. In any case, as a highly coveted title for both PlayStation and Xbox, it would serve as a strong incentive for players to purchase new hardware.
