Rockstar has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2, as well as mobile devices via iOS, Android, and the Netflix Games service. According to the official statement: “On December 2, the Western epic Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will launch on the latest mobile devices and current-gen consoles, featuring free upgrades, progress carryover, and multiple visual enhancements.”
The new release includes the full Red Dead Redemption campaign and the zombie-themed standalone expansion Undead Nightmare. Rockstar emphasized that the title has been optimized for modern hardware, with PS5 and Xbox Series platforms supporting 4K resolution, HDR, improved visual clarity, and 60 FPS performance. The studio added: “PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players can enjoy smooth 60 FPS gameplay, enhanced visuals, HDR support, and up to 4K resolution.”
The Switch 2 version will take full advantage of the upgraded hardware, including HDR, DLSS support, and 60 FPS gameplay. Rockstar says it “fully utilizes the new hardware capabilities,” also noting that the Nintendo version will support keyboard-and-mouse input.
Rockstar confirmed that all existing digital edition owners will receive a free upgrade to the new version. Players on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One (via digital backward compatibility) can claim the digital upgrade at no additional cost, with save data transferable to new consoles. The official statement notes: “Owners of the PS4, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox One digital-compatible versions will enjoy a free digital upgrade.”
The updated version is being co-developed by Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games and will also join the GTA+ and PlayStation Plus game libraries on December 2.
