Bethesda May Also Be Developing a Remaster of Fallout: New Vegas

Windows Central journalist Jez Corden commented on reports that Bethesda is developing a Fallout 3 remaster. In response to a Twitter user telling Fallout: New Vegas fans to “be realistic,” Corden directly replied that there was no need to worry, because a New Vegas remaster is “also in the works.”

In a recent interview with GQ, Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard discussed the development progress of The Elder Scrolls VI, confirming that the highly anticipated action RPG is still some time away from release. He said that while the studio continues to support Fallout 76 and “other projects,” The Elder Scrolls VI remains their “day-to-day core focus.” According to VGC, one of those other projects is indeed the Fallout 3 remaster.

For players unfamiliar with it, Fallout: New Vegas is an action role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was released on October 19, 2010, for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Set 204 years after a devastating nuclear war in the Mojave Desert, the game follows a courier who narrowly survives an assassination attempt and becomes entangled in a power struggle among factions vying for regional control. It features a vast open world with exploration, diverse weapon-based combat, and a branching dialogue tree system for interacting with NPCs.

Following the success of Fallout 3 in 2008, Bethesda Softworks commissioned Obsidian to create a standalone entry in the series. The development team chose Las Vegas and the surrounding Mojave Desert as the setting, fitting both the franchise’s retro 1950s aesthetic and the desolate tone reminiscent of Mad Max. Game director Josh Sawyer built the narrative framework around themes of greed and excess, drawing heavily from the historical background of Las Vegas.
